I hold a UK (United Kingdom) driving licence. What do I need to consider in future when driving a vehicle in Austria?
Driving licence: holders of UK driving licences who are resident in Austria must exchange their UK driving licence for an Austrian one within 6 months after the UK has left the European Union. There is no need to retake the driving test. The exchange of the UK driving licence for an Austrian one is now possible and has the advantage of a reduced fee in comparison to the exchange at a later point when the UK is already a third-country. There shall also be an additional requirement to submit a medical certificate once the UK has left the European Union.
Insurance: when driving in the EU, drivers of vehicles registered in the UK will need to carry a motor insurance Green Card as proof of insurance cover.
I own a vehicle with a type-approval issued by a British authority. Does Brexit have any consequences for me as a vehicle owner?
Brexit does not have any consequences for owners of vehicles delivered by the manufacturer before the date of the UK's withdrawal from the EU with an official type-approval issued in the UK (identifiable by 'e11' in the type-approval number).
